BEGA BOWLING CLUB
History of the Bega Bowling Club
The Bega Bowling Club had their official opening on December 28th 1940 and proudly carries the recognition of being the oldest established organisation of the Club circuit in South East NSW.
It was a brave hearted foundation Committee who took the gamble to establish the first Bowling Club in the region, especially following a Depression, Australia was at War, Floods and Bushfires, and may have made sport appear to be a mere nonsense but their pioneering spirit and foresight was destined to make the wonderful sport of Lawn Bowls a most serious nonsense.
The Bega Bowling Club was instrumental in leading the Far South Coast into an age of leisure, giving workers their freedom on Saturday afternoons.
It was a significant move by the originators to promote the game and at the same time develop a potential to reach a high standard at State level winning many flags through the period of involvement.
The background in development of Lawn Bowls in the South East of NSW has achieved great results in the past and with the Club looking optimistically and confidently forward to similar achievements in the future.
The Bega Bowling Club is pleased to have fostered social cohesiveness and group unity, and at times helped to reinforce the element of solidarity within the community.
Similar to many clubs and townships, Bega has been tugged this way and that by the forces of history which either helped or hindered as the sport of Lawn Bowls developed in importance and structure.

We invite club members/visitors to join us for social bowls twice every week.
